I use Photoshop and what I did was create a page that was 300 dpi, 16.38 inches wide, and 21 inches high as these are the dimensions of the panels on the umbrella that is listed in Silverlight when you go to create one. Then I drew a triangle from the lower left corner to the lower right corner and to the very top of the page midway between the two corners. This triangle let me know which area of my page would be used to create each of the panels for the umbrella. When I created the eight collages, I avoided placing photos outside of this triangle as they would get cut off. That's it :).
