When a Hero finishes movement on a space without another hero, a city, a token, or a marker of any kind, the Hero’s player draws from the In the Wild deck. Terrain icons (as on movement dice) along a card’s left side indicate what (if anything) happens to the Hero according to the space’s terrain; it could be good, bad, or conditional. The slightest occurrence might affect the fortunes and fate of a Hero—in the moment or for the adventure as a whole.

Runebound Tales story decks are inspired by the "story die" mechanic found in several of Runebound 2nd Ed.'s big box expansions. Each deck provides (1) a faster execution for such micro adventures, (2) no need to memorize or reference die-rolled occurrences, and (3) greater diversity for continued play.
